Hello my
name is Snuggles. I'm a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I am writing this to pay
tribute to Zoe, my sister. Zoe was a Lab mix. Mom and Dad adopted me
first. I was a troubled puppy. I was neglected and terribly abused,
Having suffered burns. Mom and Dad gave me lots of Vet attention, good
food, and most of all - TLC! I had a home! I became healthy and
learned to socialize with dogs and humans. Guess what? Life was fun! I
had nothing to be scared of!
Then Mom
and Dad heard about another dog. She had problems too. One day they sat
me down and told me they were going to bring this dog home. They told me
they need me to help this dog. I wasn't too happy, but I knew I had to
Try. That dog was Zoe and I loved her the minute she came in the house!
Zoe had
many problems - Neglect, under nourished. You rescue dogs know what I'm
talking about - the usual stuff. But Zoe had more than most. One of her
hind legs had bad fractures - She could hardly walk. She was in such
pain - it was hard to watch. The leg was broken from someone beating her
with a baseball bat, and the fractures were too old to fix. Mom and Dad
told me the best thing to do was to amputate. Mom and Dad were really
depending on me to help Zoe recover. I told them they could count on me!
So Zoe went
to the hospital for a while. Boy - did I miss her! She was pretty weak
when she came home. I told her she had to eat and I would nudge her to
get up and walk. Day by day Zoe got stronger. After awhile, she was
doing great! We would run, wrestle and have so much fun! Mom and Dad
were so happy! Zoe wasn't in pain anymore and she learned life was
fun! Our family had alot going on. Zoe and I went to daycare, and Mom
and Dad took us to lots of places. Zoe and I met alot of new
friends. Things were good.
One day I
thought Zoe was sleeping but her whole body was twitching. It was very
scary. Mom and Dad took Zoe to the vet. When they came home they
explained to me what a seizure was. They were hoping Zoe would get
better, I told them she did before and to count on me. But Zoe didn't.
Those seizures came more and more and it took longer for Zoe to feel
better. Zoe didn't want to play and was getting weaker. Zoe wasn't
happy. One Saturday, Zoe had the worst seizure ever. Mom and Dad took
Zoe to the vet. They came home without her. Thet said Zoe was not going
to get better. I think I knew that deep inside.
But then
Mom and Dad explained to me when a dog gets that weak, there is a
special home for them. In this home, there aren't any seizures, pain or
weakness - just love, happiness and fun. I was so happy Zoe had a home
where she could feel good. Mom and Dad did everything they could, but
like they told me, they would let Zoe go to her new home if she would
feel better and be able to run and smile. We all miss Zoe, but know
she's having a blast! I can't wait to see my sister someday.
